Celebrities with OCD
77What is OCD?
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is categorized by a common feature. That is the fear of your thoughts. It is a severe anxiety disorder. Some are worse than others.
It could be the fear of untidiness, fear of something or
something that is not clean. These
thoughts are recurring constantly throughout the day depending on the severity
of the condition. In sever cases thinking becomes obsessive
Body Dysmorphia Disorder(BDD) is a subcategory of OCD where a person will become obsessed with a specific body part they are not satisfied with. It is similar to a body image disorder. Even more drastic measures are taken when people with BDD become addicted to plastic surgery. An example of someone with this disorder was Michael Jackson who had over 30 cosmetic surgeries.
It has also been reported that common ocd behaviour traits that go with the disorder could make the people more successful. A person with OCD will be properly organized. They will double check on everything and keep themselves looking neat.
Sometimes where the disorder develops into worse stages celebrities such as Alec Baldwin say they are able to work around their disorder, being totally positive.
David Beckham
Celebrities speak out
There are many famous people who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder. It is a common condition. Celebrities such as David Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Donald Trump are just a few that have gone public with their condition.
David Beckham bravely spoke to media about his condition. He, being typical of someone with the disorder likes to have things in a straight line and in pairs. He gave an example of when he goes to his hotel he makes sure everything is straight row and there are the right amount of drinks in the fridge.
Every time Cameron Diaz walks through a doorway she will rub the handle really well and wash her hands countless times a day. Donald Trump is petrified of germs and will avoid shaking hands with people and would prefer not to touch the buttons of the lifts.
Leonardo diCaprio began his career in the movie industry before shooting to the big time after the filming of Titanic which was an instant success. Leonardo claimed stardom with this being one of the highest grossing films ever.
After the filming of Aviator in 2004 in which Leonardo played the part of Howard Hughes. Hughes was an aviator who turned into a engineer, film producer and director.
Leonardo revealed after the movie was completed how he had been living with OCD from a young age. When Leonardo was young he avoided stepping on the cracks and this got worse as the years went by, but he is making a conscious effort to get passed this disorder.
With such celebrities speaking about the disorder and their experiences, OCD might be made more aware and some light may be shed on the subject.
There is also a stigma that is attached to the disorder that hopefully with this awareness the mindset can now be changed. With the stigma removed people will feel they can be more open and feel free to talk about their condition without keeping it a secret. There is always treatment available.

I may have a little of it. Maybe we all have a little quirk that isn't too compulsive like it can be. If a room has two light switches to turn the one light off. I only use one. I want to flip the switch up to turn it on and down for off. That isn't too bad- however -if I have a bodily part that is abnormal- I might write a hub about it. I guess that's more of an uncontrollable "tic". Thanks Lis. Great hub!
Great hub. Most of my family has ocd in some form or another. I have a sister that when she was little she used to touch things over and over again and did everything repeatedly. With me it was thoughts that I would have over and over and I would worry myself to death. We have had therapy and we have gotten so much better but it still comes out of us every once in a while. Good hub.
Great topic & hub! I think I have a touch of it! My wife seems to think I do.....
i have ocd and for years i kept it a secret but recently ivew decided to make it more public, slowly
OCD as opposed to OCPD is one of the topics I like to follow. Some people say they are one and the same, but this is not the case. I had no idea so many celebrities suffer the condition, but then why not? Congrats on winning one of the hubalicious challenges too.
i love uuuuuuu ik smelll
...now I understand this type of disorder more. I was surprised that many celebrities have this (hmmm..maybe there are more great people out there who's experiencing this)..thank you very much for the information ma'am. ^.^
This is a wonderful hub. It is inspirational to know that if celebrities can achieve so much with so many physical disorders any one can do so. It is just a matter of strong will power and strong focus on your goal.
Really well written hub. A previous partner of mine had OCD and found life incredibly difficult. Maybe a good therapist is the key to dealing with OCD?
Great article. I remember watching a movie with Jack Nicholson as the lead actor, and his character had OCD. While not a laughing matter, it certainly raised my awareness how sufferers struggle with cracks in sidewalks and any event that is outside the normal routine. Good work.

Great hub and as always of interest to many...I think when people take a close honest look at themselves we all have disorders...thats life after all look at what comes at us each day...that is why we need to keep on eyes on Him...
