Dealing with frustrations in your home-based business
65It’s easier said than done just to focus on your work on not to get distracted by the outside world, by your friends who want to visit you or your kids who are constantly needing attention.
Someone might just tell you to forget about these disturbances and to concentrate on your job. That would be like telling a smoker just to quit smoking and not to think about it again. It’s simply not that easy.
One scenario would be if a friend was in dire straits and needed your assistance. You probably wouldn't think this would take too long, but before you knew it the whole afternoon is gone and you were not sure what you were doing last. You haven't achieved anything except extra work stress
So how can one get around this problem?
Business Structure and Planning management
Your day should be structured, planned and everyday should have a routine that you can stick to. In order for you to make a success of your business the management of your work should be stressed.
Different routines work for different people. Some may start the day off with a cup of coffee and quiet time, others with vigorous exercise with their ipod blaring to get them going. You could also want to start in the afternoon and finish in the evening, but make sure this is not because you are procrastinating.
Planning is essential. You don’t want to find there is nothing to eat for yourself or your family and you have to sit in the traffic, stand in the shopping queues and still have to cook a big meal. Rather look into taking something out the freezer in the morning, planning ahead.
People around you should know that you have a serious business and you can only be contacted at certain hours of the day. If you were holding down a senior job your family and friends would not be calling you at all hours of the day. It’s a good idea to have a separate business number and personal calls will have to wait until you have a break. Having an office or a small space to work from is also a good idea as long as family members realize that this is for your business and not a place to dump their belongings.
- Starting a home based business
When you hear the term how to start a home based business one almost immediately starts to think of online opportunities, which is quite natural with all the e-mails and spam you seem to see on the...
Support System and Delegation
A support system is an excellent way to help you focus on your job. This would be like a team of people that you would always be able to rely on to help you with daily chores, especially helpful for a working mother.
You could call up granny to do some baby-sitting, the elder cousin could come help with reading and homework and friends could be roped into various other activities. In return use some of your gifts to show your gratitude for their services once in a while. Delegate chores to family members. This will teach them responsibility and prevent you from burning out. It won’t do you any good working yourself to a stand still.
To tell yourself you can do everything yourself is only a little bit of pride creeping in and there is no place for a superhero here.
Stay Healthy
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important. It will not only benefit you physically, but also mentally. Try to spend some quality time with your family, probably over the weekends if possible. It’s best if this is away from the home and from your business so that your mind is kept off your work and in another place.

No place for a superhero here! I like it! This is really good down to earth stuff. Thanks so much for writing this. The last para is what I struggle with most!
