How safe are Keratin hair treatments?

By

The wonders of Keratin

Back when Keratin treatments first came about people were rushing to the nearest hair salon to get their lovely locks treated with the latest product. This solved many problems. It enabled people to throw their hair straighteners away and you can imagine what a fuss frizzy hair is when you are traveling and when you come in contact with conditions that cause your hair to go absolutely crazy.

Although Kertatin is pricey, people found that this lasted some time and it was worth the money because it cut out a lot of time in their daily schedule. It all seemed to good to be true.

What happened to Keratin?

Unfortunately there is a downside to most things in life. Soon enough many people started to feel the effects that the product contained. Some of the brands were more severe than others. Keratin hair treatments at home had become a big thing and people opted for this simply because it cut down costs. Ingredients contained were harsh and led nosebleeds and serious eye irritations. Alarm bells were raised when some of the products that were used in salons as well as home products were found to have carcinogens in them. Of course this debate went on for some time. Finally, some of the harmful products were taken off the shelves. Formaldehyde was found in many of the products. This was believed to be released into the air whilst the treatment was taking place and was absorbed into the eyes.

There has been a lot of word out there about the main chemical, which has been known to cause cancer. If you are pregnant this is something to stay away from because you don't want to take any risks at this time in your life.

How to be safe with Keratin hair straightening treatments

Many people are staying well away with anything associated with Keratin these days and sticking with the good old hair straightener, but if you see that it is FDA approved you will be able to be on the safe side. With no Formaldehyde in the keratin treatment there is little of you achieving the same long lasting result, but you will still be able to stay gorgeous a little longer than a day than if you were to use the iron. Prices have gone down as well so it will probably be worth your while. Just make sure it is approved.
