Social Bookmarking - how beneficial is it?, best social bookmarking sites included

I have had a couple of goals in mind in the last couple of months since joining Hubpages. One of them, being to reach 10,000 page views in under 5 months. I realize now that is slightly unrealistic.
I’m not the one to write about the techniques of making money online, article writing, promoting and marketing your work. I will leave this to the professionals with all the wisdom and knowledge such as Rebecca E, Darkside, thisisoli and RyanKett just to mention a few. There are so many more wise hubbers out there who are always willing to lend a helping hand.
However, during my time at Hubpages and in trying to reach my goal, which will probably take an extra month I feel if you have gained knowledge through learning experiences it’s important to share so that others can benefit. Some people might want to keep a piece of information they have found to themselves only to find it’s a scam or a catch.
So, moving along, I’m wondering how many times you have heard about backlinks and social bookmarking. Maybe people told you that it’s vital to add links to as many sites as possible.
Generally if you have quite a few hubs and get 10 backlinks for each of your hubs you would see a dramatic rise in traffic.
I took 2 days to research various social bookmarking sites and I started backlinking my hubs. I found my page views jumped and I was smiling, but what about clicks? Well, I had run out of bookmarking sites and I had received more clicks from when I hadn’t been hubbing for a few of day. The next couple of days I focused on seo keywords and I have seen a vast improvement in my google adsense revenue and also a slow climb in the page view count.
So are backlinks a waste of time? Some don’t bother, but the majority of hubbers will add backlinks. I wouldn’t spend all your time on social bookmarking sites because there are lots of other ways in bringing in traffic, but the dofollow sites definitely help bring in traffic from search engines such as google and yahoo. I definitely wouldn't abandon backlinking.
During my search for different social bookmarking sites I came across a few useful sites. Some sites I found you have to pay for, other sites are for a certain niche and some sites are just for bloggers.
Some of them most hubbers will have heard about. Some are no follow and others are dofollow. Some people have a strict policy only to add dofollow sites, which makes sense and won’t include sites such as Stumbleupon and Digg. Personally I believe as someone who is building up traffic that you never know where you could get a click from. For me I go by a 70% ratio so if I have 10 backlinks 7 will be dofollow and 3 would be no follow, but the option is yours. Everyone is different.

How to backlink without taking too much time
Many people write quite a few hubs, thinking they will leave their backlinks to do all at once. This could take up to a day if you have a lot of hubs and articles that need backlinking.
I find a much easier way is to add your backlinks after every hub you have written. This way you will get it over and done with, it cuts your work load down and you can concentrate on the next hub without having to set a day aside for backlinks.
Most social bookmarking sites have also made it a lot easier now with extras you can add to your toolbar. This makes life a lot easier without going to the site everytime and going through the whole procedure. Now you just have to click on the widget on your toolbar and type in the details.
It takes 1 or 2 minutes to add a backlink and this is not a lot of time considering how it might help you be found on one of the search engines with a little patience on your side.

Thanks Lis. This is useful info. I have signed up for Redgage but found it a little difficult to get into. Maybe I'm just technologically challenged! Will have a look at some of the others you have listed.

Thanks so much-I'm really not very good in this area and looking for all the help I can get.
Thanks for these sites, some of which I haven't heard of. Bookmarking this hub, thanks.
useful hub there..
It is good advice. Sometimes my backlinks will appear higher on google than my hubpage article. No problem though because if whoever clicks wants to read then ultimately they will be back to the hub...and the big plus is that I can earn off the backlink too!
Thanks lis for the great tips...
Very informative, thanks.
